Rain and Visit

Jordan Lake State Park
Poplar Point CG (site #E100)
Apex, NC

It has rained some just about every day that we’ve been here.  I sure wish there was a way that Texas could get some of this rain to help with the drought out there.  It’s so wet here that big mushrooms are popping up all over the place!

I was surprised to see some Fall colors already showing on this Maple tree.  These red berries are abundant in the area.  Since the birds aren’t eating them, I would assume that they are poisonous.

We are on a waterfront site but we haven’t taken the kayaks out yet.  It’s been too rainy.  We’ve caught up on our rest and we’ve read the book “The Help”.  We like to read aloud using different accents for the characters.  Maybe we’ll get to see the movie soon.

Here’s a typical site here at Poplar Point.  Notice how wooded it is.  It’s water and 30 amp on this one but some sites don’t have electricity.  They are open to the main lake instead of up a cove like we are.

It cleared up enough today to have our friends Gail and Rick of Gypsy Turtles join us for the afternoon.  They are staying nearby at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh and enjoying FHU (50 amp even) for the same price as here ($25).  There aren’t any trees there yet and the sites are close together but it’s much more convenient for appointments.

I think that they enjoyed the trees here and agreed that this is the kind of cg that they like too.  We enjoyed the visit and know that we will run into them again some time down the road.

Thanks for dropping by, and enjoy each day of your life’s journey by finding beauty in the ordinary.

I think reading out loud to each other is the greatest! Craig reads to me from time to time when we come across a book that lends itself to it. The Help would have, but I read it by myself. He has read all of Harry Potter books out loud to me. Love it.

So glad you did a blog post. I meant to tell you that if you give it up, we won't be able to follow you! And then, I'd have to bug Gin :)
Thanks for having us. We had a great time visiting and we hope to see you down the road sometime soon :)

Boy great minds think alike. Don't you love reading out loud. Wish I could have been there to hear the voices.

This looks like a great place. $25a night is what we try to stay at or under. We've foundd that state parks are usually among the more expensive campgrounds we stay in but they sure are nice.

Of course we benefit from those old folks federal discounts that you youngins can't get yet. :-)

when does that campground close for the winter as we will be in the Raleigh area to visit our daughter in a couple of weeks?

If you give up blogging, we would miss you;o(( Then we would have to worry and you know, we would still find you;o)) I know it can get burdensome at times, but just post once in a while to let us know how you are doing. If you don't we will, like Gail, be calling or emailing to check on you two!!

Dianne loves to take pictures of fungi! However, we are in TX now in a great COE campground looking over a lake that is 16 feet below normal. Not a fungus anywhere in the neighborhood. Have fun in what to us would be a tropical rain forest :-).

Syl- glad to hear from you again. I always enjoy reading your posts.
Looks like a nice campground. I will be glad to get back to a state park later- lots of RV parks in our future just for convenience. I can't believe Sherry is rubbing that old folks discount in :)

Hi to Gail and Rick although I guess it is too late for that.
We're coming East if we ever get out of Forest City so maybe we'll meet up with them and you guys.

What's this about giving up blogging? Don't you dare. Gin doesn't want me calling her all the time or worse yet EMAILING the E challenged to find out what you 2are up 2.

As for rubbing it in, I think this is THE only benefit to getting old so all 4 of you should just skip it. It isn't worth the savings! :-)))

About the cg...I think they close in November. The bad thing is that they lock the gate early. In September it's 8pm, in October it's 7pm, and in November it's 7pm. They will not give out a pass code.

About the Old Fart Card...since Gin is "lucky" enough to have MS, she has a National Access Pass that gives her the same discounts as the Old Farts. She didn't even have to pay for it. She would gladly give it up if there was a cure for MS (me too).

About the blog...I will continue to post some but it's getting a bit stagnant here. We are ready to sell the house and hit the road. Sometimes my heart just isn't in it.

Wish we had prices like that in the campgrounds here in Northern VA. Cheapest for just electric is $38, before tax.

I understand how hard it is to get motivated sometimes to write a post. It will be easier when you get on the road. I keep telling myself that.

As to the rain, we've had so much here I'm starting to grow moss in my armpits... ;c)

We also enjoy reading your posts and would be sorry if you gave up blogging. We continue to pray that your house sells SOON so you'll be free to hit the road.

Glad you were able to spend an afternoon with Rick and Gail!

I just want to hear about your boring ol' life and know what you two are up to and how you are.

Don't get too down about the house. It just takes one right person!
