To See or Not to See…

Aug 13, 2012 to the Present
(Notice the dates…We’ve been here more than a month.)

Roanoke Rapids, NC
RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads sites P32 and P24

We made it to Roanoke Rapids to spend some time visiting with family and to get new glasses for Gin.  As it’s worked out, she didn’t get new glasses but we’ve enjoyed time here with family.  This is a nice park with FHU and the monthly rates are nice.  The daily rates are a bit high but it’s close to Mom and Gin’s parents who live in Rocky Mount.  Here’s the entry and office which has a nice laundry and bathhouse.

There’s also a Rally Room in the office building.  They have some kind of rv rally here at least once a month.  Here’s our site and the swimming pool that we’ve enjoyed.  We slid down the slide some but no bathing suit pics of us will ever appear on this blog.

When we first got here, Gin went to the eye doctor to get new glasses.  Well, they wouldn’t even dilate her eyes because the fluid pressure was too high.  An appointment was made in four weeks time to have laser surgery to correct this problem (angle closure glaucoma) so we just enjoyed the time here with family.  We stayed with Gin’s folks some and enjoyed afternoons with my mom several times.  Gin’s folks have put their MH in a park near Emerald Isle so we spent a few nights with them there.  It rained the whole time but we enjoyed it any way.  We drove over the bridge and walked out on the pier between sprinkles.

We have definitely gone off of our diets this past month but we’ll get back on it soon.  Mom is quite active considering that she’s 84 years old.  One of the things she likes to do on Friday nights is take a couple of her more senior friends out to eat.  We joined them a couple of times and I drove her car.  I refer to it as “driving a bouquet of daisies” after that movie with Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy.  Here’s Miss Elizabeth, Lucille, Mom and me after giving them a tour of our home.

We will be leaving here in a few days to go to FL.  We have chosen to have our mail forwarding handled there and need to get our domicile established.  Gin returned to the eye doctor to have the laser surgery.  She was the first appointment of the day but still waited over an hour for the doctor.  After looking at her eye with a microscope, he said that the blockage was not total and that there was still fluid circulating around the eye.  She could have her eyes dilated for an exam and glasses.  Then he said that he would do the surgery that day if he had time so he asked his assistant if they had time.  She gave him the look that said “no” and he said to make sure no one dilates her eyes before they check her angles then walked out the door.  The assistant said to make an appointment for next week to get glasses but when checking out, the office said it would be two weeks at the earliest.  Gin felt like she was getting the run around so we will take care of it in FL after getting domiciled there.  Wish her luck.

We’ve managed to do some projects here, well mainly Gin’s done them but I handed her the tools.  After much thought, I’ve decided to cut back on blogging.  We’re just enjoying the little things in life and I’ve never kept a journal before.  I’ll still do a post once in a while when we go or do something really noteworthy and read my favorite blogs.  I seldom leave comments because I often times read them on my phone.  I think I’ll enjoy life better when I don’t find myself thinking “I should put that in the blog” if that makes any sense.  It’s all about freedom.

Looks like you guys are enjoying yourselves. Good luck to Gin with her eyes.
I know what you mean about blogging, although I still like to blog. I'm always thinking about taking pictures 'for the blog' and what topic for today's blog post. So far it hasn't become a chore :)
Looking forward to seeing you in SC!

I just have to SIGH over your experience with the "medical profession" given what's happening here.

It is all about freedom but I'll sure miss knowing where you are and what you are up to. I'll miss your comments too. I love knowing you are "out there".

You post whenever you want, no pressure, we'll still be here. ;c)

We've looked at that Carolina Crossroads Resort every time we drive past it, but have not stopped in. The "Resort" in the name translates to expensive in our minds. We do understand being close to family over price, though.

Don't get me started on the medical world. Really hate that they kept you waiting and then did not do the procedure anyway. Just be sure to get those eyes checked!!!

Totally understand about the blog. I have already cut back... it just takes too much time for me. It started out as a record for us and just took over. If we aren't blogging...we are busy having fun;o)))

How frustrating about the doctor! But, that means that you can roll on down to FL. We saw some pelicans last night....must have been an omen...and a good one at that! Totally understand about blogging!

Blog whenever you feel like it. It really is all about freedom. . . and fun!

Good luck to Gin!

Totally understand about blogging. There are just times when it's easier to just enjoy.

Good luck to Gin with the eyes! How frustrating that must have been. Hope you find better care in Florida.

Love the picture of you and the daisies :)

I blog because I enjoy it. It gives me an outlet for my thoughts. It is your time to do what you enjoy. Sorry about Gin's frustrations with the eye doc. If you are in the Tampa area, Dr. David Leach did my eye surgery. I thought he was very good.

I love the comment about driving the daisies! How cute!

We are at the sister park of yours. I guess it's owned by the same person....Fred Israel?

Sorry Gin is having to go through the laser surgery. That is the same thing I had done a few months ago on both eyes. It was not a fun procedure. I didn't know it at the time but the laser surgery consists of many blasts of laser, not just one time. It gave me a terrible headache, so my recommendation is to take a Tylenol or two before the procedure...if it's okay with the doctor.

I had mine done in Tampa and after I complained about the discomfort, the doctor used a different laser that was less uncomfortable. Not only do you not want to have your eyes dilated, you have to watch what drugs you take..no sudafed or even allergy drugs.

Keep in touch at least once in a while!

Blogging is for FUN not because you feel like you have to. I keep up our blog just as a reminder for ourselves. We sometimes look back to see where we were or when we did something we might want to do again. Good Luck to Gin.

I understand what you are saying about blogging. We have been in Maine since May 1st and it has been great but no blogging just having too much fun. We have our reservations at Huntington Beach for the Carolina Clan Reunion. See you there.

Hope Gin's eye problem finds a better solution in Florida. That had to be frustrating. We also understand about the blogging. It is fun to do, but sometimes we feel that it has taken over our lives. We will definitely cut back when we get to our winter place in TX.

I understand about blogging. When we are traveling on our own. It is easy, but when we travel with friends or are visiting family and/or friends I am just having too much fun to stop and tell about it. I do like having a record of what we did and where we've been. I had a friend tell me that her son told her to put the camera down and enjoy what your doing in person. No body wants your pictures anyway. Blog when it feels right. I sometimes feel I have to catch up but I learning to let that go.
Praying for Gin, that she will find a great doctor in Florida. That is one of the hard parts of full timing.

It took me time to learn all the comments, but I honestly loved the blog. It proved to be very advantageous to me and I'm positive to all of the followers here!

Loved the "driving the daisies"..may borrow that sometime!!
I live in Sarasota, FL and hope to full-time one day, but not yet. (We met at the RV-Dreams Rally in Myrtle Beach...now I just envy your lifestyle.) So, if your travels bring you this way Dr. Pooja Khator is my eye doc. I went through about 3 docs before I found her...she's great.
Good luck Gin!!

Still here...but now we're in Florida for the winter. I may get around to updating the blog a bit but I'm in serious "relax mode".
